The SOHMO story starts here. When we launched in 2018, these were the first product in the range, and nothing since has knocked them off top spot. Handmade in Italy from nickel-plated carbon steel with 24k gold-plated handles, they've earned their place in sewing rooms, dressmaking studios, and quilting spaces across Australia and beyond (we've even sent a pair to Antarctica - true story!)
The dual-blade type design is what sets these apart. One micro-serrated blade gently grips fabric as it cuts, so nothing slips and your cut line stays true, which matters enormously on slippery fabrics like silk, satin, or fine cotton that love to shift the second you're not looking. The opposing knife-edge blade finishes the job with a clean, smooth line. Together, they're the difference between a good seam and a great one.
Offset handles keep the lower blade close to your cutting surface, so fabric stays flat as you cut. It's a small detail that matters a lot once you're through multiple layers, cutting on the bias, or working a long straight line in garment fabric. At 8" with a 100mm blade, these are full-size working shears built for dressmaking, garment sewing, quilting, curtain making, and any fabric cutting job worth taking seriously.
Weighty without being heavy. Sharp the way well-made Italian scissors are sharp, ready for years of work. With a drop of oil at the pivot screw, a wipe with the included microfibre cloth, and the occasional tension adjustment, these are built to outlast the project you bought them for. Plenty of SOHMO customers have had theirs since 2018, and they'll tell you the same thing: still going strong.
