Artificial Intelligence Usage Statement
SOHMO is a one-woman show. That's not a marketing line, it's a fact I run into every single day (usually around 4pm, when I'm still answering emails, packing orders and trying to write a description for scissors that doesn't sound like every other description on the internet).
So yes, I use artificial intelligence for some things. Here's exactly where, so you're not left guessing:
Where artificial intelligence helps
Proof-reading. Emails, product listings, social captions. I write it, an LLM helps me catch the typos and fix the sentences that only make sense inside my own head.
SEO articles. When I'm putting together longer pieces for the website, an LLM helps with drafting and structure to make sure I'm thinking about all the different search terms people might be searching when looking for great quality sewing tools. I still write the story, fact-check every detail and give it a final read before it goes anywhere near the site. If it's got my name on it, I stand behind it.
That's the list. Two things.
Hold on, three things - I like to say 'Hey Google...' to change a song while I'm driving so that I don't take my hands off the wheel.
Where artificial intelligence does not get a look in
Product images. Every photo on this site is a real product, photographed and edited by my very talented photographer.
Physical products. Every pair of scissors, tin of pins and needle minder is designed, sourced and quality-checked by me. The packaging artwork is designed by me.
Website coding. Built and maintained by self-taught human - me.
Customer service. No chatbots here. If you email SOHMO, you get me, typing back with my own two hands.
Digital products. If SOHMO ever sells a pattern, guide or download, a human made it.
Your data. Customer details, order info and correspondence never get fed into a bot for analysis. Ever. I've spent my entire career zooming around data in excel unassisted, I'm not about to stop now.
Making coffee. Still 100% human-run, and honestly the least reliable part of the whole operation.
Why I'm telling you this
Understandably, artificial intelligence is a touchy subject in handmade and creative industries right now, and fair enough. I'd rather be upfront about where it sits in my workflow than have you wonder. If this changes down the track, I'll update this page and let you know.
