SOHMO at Craft Cinema Night - Love Actually, The Holiday, and a Custom Needle Minder
There are few things better than watching a great film. There are few things better than a solid crafting session. Craft Cinema Night, the brainchild of Juliet of Sew Hooked, has worked out that if you put those two things together in a cinema with the lights turned down low - you get something genuinely special.
We've been fans of Craft Cinema Night for a while, so when the opportunity came up to be part of an evening as a sponsor, we said yes immediately.
The night
The films were Love Actually and The Holiday - back to back, at Cinema Nova in Melbourne. A perfectly curated double feature for a room full of makers who appreciate both a good rom-com and an excuse to sit still with a project for four hours. Popcorn optional. Knitting, embroidery, crochet, and slow stitching: absolutely encouraged.
If you haven't been to a Craft Cinema Night event yet - they run across Melbourne, Sydney, regional Victoria, and sometimes even Tassie. They regularly sell out - it's worth knowing that they hold a pre-event meet-up before the screening so you can find your people before you find your seat. You can come alone and leave with a crafty friend group. The vibe is exactly as wholesome as it sounds.
The custom needle minder
For this event, SOHMO designed a custom enamel needle minder featuring the Craft Cinema Night logo. Every person who attended the screening received a needle minder - either the custom CCN needle minder or a SOHMO Mini Scissors needle minder - to keep their needle safe during the film and take home as a little memento of the evening.
It was the first time we've made a custom needle minder for an event, and it was genuinely a joy to see them being put to use in the cinema - needles parked, projects in progress, films rolling.
The prizes
We also ran a seat number prize draw on the night, with three lucky winners selected at random:
