Australian design collaboration brings a quilting community favourite to life in enamel
SOHMO has joined forces with quilting designer Jemima Flendt of Tied with a Ribbon to create a limited-run magnetic needle minder, designed to celebrate the upcoming release of her new stitchery pattern, Mayfair Petals.
A design worth immortalising in enamel
When Jemima started planning the release of Mayfair Petals, she wanted something more than a pattern launch - she wanted a keepsake her community could stitch with while they made it. SOHMO founder Sonya Morris worked directly with Jemima to translate the Mayfair Petals artwork into a small enamel needle minder, taking the design from stitchery to sketch to a finished piece small enough to sit on your hoop and strong enough to hold your needle mid-project.
"Jemima's designs have so much personality in them already, so the job was really just making sure none of that got lost shrinking it down to needle minder size," says Sonya. "I love the colours Jemima uses throughout her work, and the resulting needle minder is just as cheerful and fun as her quilts and stitcheries. It was a genuinely lovely process to be part of."
The needle minder will be available through SOHMO and retailers, alongside the release of the Mayfair Petals pattern itself, giving stitchers a little something extra to hold onto once the project is finished.
Meet the designer: Jemima Flendt, Tied with a Ribbon
Jemima Flendt is the designer behind the quilt, sewing and crochet patterns at Tied with a Ribbon, known for modern, fun designs that pack a punch while still teaching helpful skills, so even a beginner quilter can feel confident making them.
Her background as a high school Home Economics teacher shaped her love of teaching, and it shows. Jemima is the author of three books - Weekend Quilting, Quilt Big, and Quilt It, Crochet It! - and has designed fabric collections for Robert Kaufman. She teaches classes, retreats and workshops across Australia and internationally, and contributes regularly to major quilting publications worldwide.
